Already Used Your Canada Working Holiday? Here's What You Still Have

Last reviewed: 2026-08-11

Short answer: in most cases, yes. Under the new Canada–Korea youth mobility agreement, Korean citizens can participate in IEC twice, up to 24 months per participation. If you went under the old one-time/12-month agreement, you can apply for a second period. And going through a Recognized Organization adds two more lifetime participations. "My working holiday is used up" is usually old-rules thinking.

What rules you out first

  • Age over 35. IEC for Korean citizens runs from 18 to 35 inclusive. Beyond that, the road is study or LMIA-based work — not IEC.
  • One permit per season. Even with participations left, you can only get one IEC permit per season.
  • The draw. IEC invitations come by rounds from the pool; registering guarantees nothing.
  • Base requirements. CAN$2,500 in funds, health insurance for the entire stay, a round-trip ticket or funds for one, and a passport valid for your stay.

Your remaining chances, by case

Over 35IEC is closed — consider study permits, LMIA work, or a spousal open work permit

What is a Recognized Organization?

An IRCC-recognized, Canada-based organization offering support like job placement and settlement help. Participating through an RO adds two lifetime participations; you submit the RO's confirmation letter with your application. The official RO list is published by IRCC. Most charge fees, and the one-permit-per-season rule still applies.

Turning round two into a PR runway

Use a second participation deliberately: CEC requires 1,560 hours of Canadian experience (capped at 30 hours/week) within 3 years — 24 months is plenty of runway if you work steadily in a TEER 0–3 job and secure your language scores. See our CEC hours guide and CELPIP vs IELTS guide.

FAQ

I did 12 months under the old agreement — how long is round two? Up to 24 months. Anyone who applied before December 11, 2023 can apply for a second and final participation in any category.

Does an RO guarantee selection? No. ROs extend your participation count and support your stay; the draw is still the draw.
